30 Days of Indie Travel- Day 10…EARTH

BootsnAll says: At what point in your travels have you felt most in tune with the Earth? Share a story of how you interacted with the local environment or nature.

I stood in the middle of the desert and did a slow 360 degree turn. No cars, no noise, no civilisation. Anywhere. You couldn’t see anything but sandy plains on the horizon. We were completely and utterly alone. It was both thrilling and unsettling. Everything was exactly as it would have been hundreds of years ago. It was strange to think that places like this exist, vast expanses of land untouched by time. Ageless. I couldn’t get over the silence. The rich colours of the dunes and rock were disturbed intermittently by a shocking flash of greenery. There didn’t seem to be any life (animal or human for miles). This was nature at its most peaceful and isolating.

  1. That must be pretty awesome!!! jealous.

  2. I remember the dome of stars in the outback of Australia on a trip to Uluru. They came right down to the horizon all around us. Stunning!
